From 2nd-14th November, 1914, 1st Middlesex battalion of 19 Brigade were in the front line at La Boutillerie, Fleurbaix, a few miles to the south of Armentières. The battalion was very weak by this time after their efforts during the Battle of Armentières and suffered another 150 casualties during this period, mainly as a result of the constant shelling of their trenches. D and C Companies were very badly hit on 8th November, sustaining over 50 casualties. Frederick Dodman died from wounds on 9th November. |
